Nigeria international Victor Boniface has addressed recent rumors linking him to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, shortly after being celebrated by Bayer Leverkusen for scoring in his 50th Bundesliga appearance.
The 24-year-old forward had been rumored to be on the verge of a move from the German champions to Al-Nassr for a fee of approximately €70 million before the Saudi transfer window closed on Friday.
However, reports suggest that Al-Nassr ultimately backed out of the deal for Boniface and opted to sign Colombian striker Jhon Duran from Premier League side Aston Villa instead.
“There has been a lot of speculation here and there. But I like playing here and want to do my best for the team,” Boniface said on Tribal Football. “Whatever happens in the future will happen, but at the moment I’m only thinking about helping Leverkusen achieve our goals.
“Transfer rumours are normal in football. It’s always flattering when big clubs show interest, but my focus at the moment is 100 percent on Bayer Leverkusen.
“Every game is an opportunity. I want to contribute goals, assists and energy to the team. I just want to stay fit, keep playing and keep improving. If I manage that, I think everything else will fall into place.”
Boniface marked his return from injury with a goal as Leverkusen claimed a 3-1 win over TSG Hoffenheim in a Bundesliga clash on Sunday.
Reacting to his Sunday’s landmark, Leverkusen via its official X handle (formerly Twitter) yesterday highlighted the achievement of the Super Eagles striker by the captioning his photograph: “ 50 games for Bayern04. Congratulations, Boni!!! Fire.”
Since arriving the club during the 2023/2024 season, the bulky striker has inspired the Xavi Alonso side to German Bundesliga title and Europa League silver medal.
The bulky player has 11 caps for the Super Eagles.
