Defence minister orders Service Chiefs to adopt new strategies to combat terrorism

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has directed the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs to step up operations and adopt fresh, workable strategies to fast-track the defeat of terrorism and insurgency across the country.

Musa issued the directive on Wednesday at the maiden edition of the newly introduced Monthly Operational Briefing held at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Colonel Timothy Antigha (Rtd), the minister also addressed concerns over the presence of United States Africa Command in Nigeria.

He clarified that U.S. personnel are in the country strictly for training and advisory support, stressing that the Armed Forces of Nigeria retain full operational control of all activities within the nation’s territory.

Musa commended the professionalism, resilience, and gallantry of Nigerian troops and reaffirmed the commitment of the ministry to supporting troops welfare and improving the operational efficiency of the Armed Forces. 

According to the statement the event provided the Minister the opportunity to review ongoing operations and provide strategic guidance to the Armed Services.
