National Sports Festival defending champions, Delta State has experienced a slow start at the on going Gateway Games 2024 in Ogun State as they are currently in 7th position according to the official medals table as released by the Main Organizing Committee (MOC)/Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

The state which won the last four editions of the games consecutively in Rivers, FCT, Edo and Delta has 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal to bring their total to three medals won so far.

Bayelsa State which shortly before the games in Ogun emerged winners of the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival, presently lead the medals table with 6 golds, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.

Oyo State occupy the second position with 4 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Lagos State is in third place with 3 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronze medals while the two rivers states, Cross Rivers and Rivers State occupy the fourth and fifth position respectively with 3 golds, 0 silver and 0 bronze and 2 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze to complete the top five on the medals table.

The country’s biggest sporting event began May 16 and it will end May 30.
