Divine Oduduru says he is going to return to the track stronger than ever after going a whole athletics season without competing.
The Nigeria 200m record holder (19.73s) reveals in a post on his Facebook page he has been off the track because of injury but assures he is coming back soon.
‘I’m sure you’ve all been wondering why I haven’t been competing this season.
‘Unfortunately part of being a top athlete means you also have to endure the pains of going through injuries that you don’t expect.
‘Missing the World Championships and other major events is disappointing,’ wrote the 2019 double NCAA sprint champion.
Oduduru says he is on the way to getting back to his best.
‘The good news is that I’m on the track to recovery and looking forward to putting the setback behind me,’ he added.
The 26 year old will hope to be part of Nigeria’s team to the World Athletics Championships in Budapest next August and the African Games in Ghana.
To achieve his return to World Athletics’ flagship event, Oduduru will have to run 10.00 seconds in the 100m and/or 20.16 seconds in the 200m.
He is yet to win a global title for Nigeria as a senior athlete and will be aiming to end that unwanted record next year either in Budapest, Hungary at the World Championships or in Accra, Ghana at the African games.
