EPL: Why Tuchel, Boehly clashed because of Fofana revealed

Sacked Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel and club’s co-owner, Todd Boehly clashed over the American billionaire’s decision to make Wesley Fofana travel to New York to have his medical.

The decision left Tuchel ‘furious’, in what was an indication of the pair’s strained relationship.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss was relieved of his position as Chelsea manager last week and almost immediately replaced by Graham Potter.

Boehly, in a statement yesterday said he decided to sack the German because he was not the man to take the Blues forward.

Sport Bild reports that though the decision to sack the manager came earlier than expected, the writing looked to be on the wall for Tuchel following Boehly’s acquisition of the club.

The pair clashed almost immediately, with Boehly failing to impress Tuchel with his lack of knowledge of football operations.

Fofana joined in a £70m move from Leicester City in the final week of the window.

And having started the season without the defender, Tuchel wanted to integrate him into the team but after striking a deal, the move was delayed further when Boehly insisted that Fofana underwent his medical in New York City.

Then the French star had to travel from the Midlands to London before taking a seven-hour flight to the east coast, where he underwent his medical and took a flight back to the UK.

Tuchel saw this trip as unnecessary and was ‘furious’ that the former Leicester star had to then combat jetlag on his return.
