Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged eligible voters in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas to turn out in large numbers for Saturday’s bye-election to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The polls will hold in Ahoada East Constituency 2 and Khana Constituency 2, where lawmakers are to be elected into the state legislature.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Friday, Fubara described the exercise as a “family affair” and called on residents to support candidates of the All Progressives Congress contesting the two seats.

The governor’s position was conveyed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made available to reporters.

He also appealed to voters to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the exercise, stressing the need to safeguard public order.

“Everybody should be law-abiding and avoid doing anything that will disturb the peace during the exercise,” the governor said, adding that there was no need for rancour or acrimony.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has announced restriction of movement in the affected LGAs from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday to ensure a hitch-free poll.
