Still in the best form from his exploits in Houston and Singapore, Quadri Aruna helped TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell (TTC) to consolidate their fourth place in the Table Tennis Bundeliga (TTBL) with a convincing 3-1 win over TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau.
In the tie against the visiting TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, it was German international Ruwen Filus who started the tie for the home team against his former national teammate, Patrick Baum.
Despite coming from behind to level up at 2-2, Filus fell 2-3 to Baum to give the visitor a 1-0 lead.
The youngest member of the home team Fan Bo Meng restored parity for TTC with a 3-2 win over pen-holder Jiaji Wu.
French international Alexandre Cassin increased the lead for the home team with another a 3-0 win over Cristian Pletea.
To ensure TTC remains on the play-off course in the Bundesliga, Aruna left nothing to chance when he claimed 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 14-12) win over Wu to produce the 3-1 final result.
Meanwhile, the management of TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell led rolled out the drum before the tie to celebrate the Nigerian for his quarterfinal finish at the 2021 World Championships in Houston and WTT Cup Finals in Singapore.
In a statement issued by the club, Aruna was described as a good ambassador of the club even as the club’s chairman Stefan Frauenholz praised Aruna for showing class at the weekend.
“We are particularly proud of Quadri Aruna’s performance, who made it to the quarter-finals against Truls Morgegardh. There he lost in 6 tight sets with 11-13, 11-8, 2-11, 11-4, 12-14, and 11-7 against the later finalist and Boll conqueror. Before that, he beat Düsseldorf’s Kristian Karlsson and India’s top player Gnanasekaran, among others.
“ Since yesterday it has been number 13 in the world – congratulations from us!” the club stated.
On Sunday, December 19, Aruna and his teammates will welcome Bad Königshofen in a week 10 league match.
