Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles have secured a spot in the 2025 African Nations Championship after a dominant 3-1 win over Ghana’s Black Galaxies at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.
After a goalless draw in the first leg in Accra, the Eagles B came out strong in the second leg, scoring three goals in the first half. Remo Stars’ Sodiq Ismail and Nduka Junior put Nigeria ahead within the first 22 minutes, and Kazeem Ogunleye of Rangers further extended the lead in the 25th minute.
Ghana managed to pull one back through Stephen Amankuna in the 73rd minute, but Nigeria maintained their advantage to secure qualification for their first CHAN tournament since 2018. This victory was especially sweet as it came against Ghana, who had previously knocked Nigeria out of CHAN qualification in 2008 and 2022.
The Eagles B will now compete in the 2025 tournament, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania from February 1-25, aiming to improve on their best finish as runners-up in 2018.
