Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, says a political pathway is being pursued to secure the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, despite his conviction by an Abuja High Court.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Kalu assured that hope for Kanu’s freedom remains alive, noting that the conclusion of court proceedings has opened the door for renewed engagement at the political level.

Kalu expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would consider appeals from respected Igbo leaders, stressing that the President has shown openness to constructive dialogue.

He urged residents of the South East and Nigerians at large to remain calm while efforts continue.

“It is now time to explore the political solution that could not be pursued while the case was still in court. With the judicial process concluded, we can intensify our appeal for the President’s intervention — and we are confident he is not averse to it. We will get it. All hope is not lost. Our people should remain calm,” he said.
