The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday expressed optimism that the protracted political crisis in Rivers State is nearing a final resolution, following what he described as a decisive intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike spoke in Abuja after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across the FCT, where he commended the President’s role in restoring calm to the state’s troubled political landscape.
He said Tinubu’s leadership was instrumental in easing tensions between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers, noting that the President acted as a unifying national figure at a critical moment.
“I believe that by the grace of God, this will be the last time the President will be bothered with this issue and that this will be the last time Rivers people will witness this kind of discord,” Wike said.
He described the President’s intervention as authoritative and binding on all parties, stressing that it carried the weight of national leadership.
“The President is the father of the nation. When a father speaks, his children must listen and do what is necessary to ensure peace and progress,” he added.

Wike expressed confidence that both the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara would honour the understanding reached at the Presidential Villa.
“The House of Assembly will carry out its responsibilities, and I am confident the governor will also take the required steps to ensure that this peace is sustained,” he said.
He emphasised that stability and development must now take precedence over political disagreements, urging stakeholders to prioritise the state’s collective interest.
“The most important thing is for Rivers State to move forward. We are grateful to Mr President for his tireless efforts in ensuring that we reach this understanding,” Wike stated.
The crisis deepened in recent months after the Rivers State House of Assembly, widely perceived as loyal to Wike, initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.
In a bid to restore order, President Tinubu on Monday summoned Wike and Fubara to the Presidential Villa, where he personally mediated talks aimed at resolving the impasse.
