The Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, DFA, Chief Godwin Adode has lauded the Team Deta female Football squad for triumphing over the National Under-17 Female team the Flamingos in the final of the women’s football event of the ongoing National Sports Festival taking place in Abeokuta.
Chief Adode who expressed delight over the teams victory averred that the young lasses showed grit and dedication to overcome the more established Flamingos in a crunch tie that had ended in a draw.
The elated football administrator said the girls triumph was a clear testament of the State government led by Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori dedication to sustain investment in sports in the state.
He averred that Team Delta’s all round performance had also laid credence to the management of the Delta State Sports Commission led by Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori ability to tinker the state’s sports sector in a bid to take the sector to another new level.
The former chairman of Ughelli North Local Government insisted that despite Team Delta arriving the games with a below strength contingent they still maintained the state’s stranglehold in Nigeria sports.
Chief Adode however enjoined athletes still competing at thee games not to relent but be fired up by the exploits of the various teams and individuals who had continued to raise Delta States flag higher at the games to deliver more gold medals.
Team Delta has now taken an unassailable lead on the medals table after collecting 92 gold, 59 silver and 75 bronze medals followed by Team Bayelsa which had garnered 64 gold, 42 silver and 49 bronze medals with hosts Team Ogun in third place after picking 53 gold, 64 silver and 52 bronze medals while Team Rivers are fourth on the Medals table s it had gathered 49 gold, 40 silver and 48 bronze medals and Team Edo completes the top five states as it now has 46 gold, 80 silver and 77 bronze medals.
