Peseiro hands Ozornwafor late invitation for Super Eagles’ AFCON qualifiers

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has invited defender Valentine Ozornwafor to the team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Mauritius.

Ozornwafor’s invitation for the qualifiers was confirmed by his Belgian Pro League outfit, Sporting Charleroi.

“Our African internationals will play several qualifying matches for the next African Cup of Nations,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.

“Valentine Ozornwafor, selected with Nigeria, will face Sierra Leone before traveling to Mauritius.”

The 21-year-old debuted with the Super Eagles in a friendly 1-0 loss to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in June 2021.

The former Enyimba defender has also represented Nigeria at the U-20 level. He featured at the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Ozornwafor has also played for the Nigeria U-23 team in the past.
