Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has said the sustained deployment of Nigerian Army personnel has led to visible and measurable improvements in the state’s security situation.

The governor spoke on Tuesday during a visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja, accompanied by federal lawmakers from Taraba State and members of the Executive Council of the International Institute for African Defence, Security and Governance.

Kefas commended the strong inter-agency collaboration among security forces operating in the state and identified areas requiring increased military presence to consolidate recent gains.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army, including the provision of accommodation for deployed troops, and pledged continued cooperation in confronting security challenges.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, restated the Army’s resolve to fulfil its constitutional responsibility of supporting civil authorities to maintain peace and security across the country.

He described Taraba as strategically important within Nigeria’s security architecture, citing its terrain and evolving security dynamics.

Shaibu praised the governor’s leadership and coordination with security agencies, stressing that sustainable peace depends on close civil-military collaboration.

He described the state government’s support, including land donations and the provision of operational equipment, as critical to improving the scope and effectiveness of military operations in the state.

The COAS appealed for continued partnership, urging the governor to assist in providing stable electricity supply to the 20 Model Battalion in Sarti and the 93 Battalion, noting that improved power would boost operational efficiency, combat readiness and troop welfare.

He also called for intensified public sensitisation across Taraba State, urging residents to support security operations by providing timely and credible intelligence.

“Community cooperation remains a decisive weapon in defeating terrorists and other criminal elements,” he said.
