The National Assembly has responded to concerns over the legislative process for key tax laws, stressing that it is addressing the issues strictly within its constitutional and statutory mandate.
In a statement on Friday, signed by Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, Director of Information for the Clerk to the National Assembly, the legislature said public commentary has emerged regarding the passage, presidential assent, and publication in the Official Gazette of the following Acts: the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2025, and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025.
The statement noted that the commentary referenced the harmonisation of the Bills passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives, the presidential assent, and the versions of the Acts published in the Official Gazette.
“The Leadership and Management of the National Assembly is addressing these matters strictly within its constitutional and statutory mandate,” the statement said, adding that relevant committees are conducting an internal review in collaboration with the management.

The National Assembly explained that the review is guided by the Constitution, the Acts Authentication Act (Cap. A4, LFN 2004), the Standing Orders of both chambers, and established parliamentary practice.
“As part of this process, and to ensure clarity, accuracy, and the sanctity of the legislative record, the Clerk to the National Assembly has been directed to facilitate the publication of the Acts in the Official Gazette and issue certified true copies of the assented Acts to stakeholders or the public on demand,” the statement said.
The legislature emphasised that the administrative exercise is intended solely to authenticate and formally reflect legislative decisions and does not imply any defect in the exercise of legislative authority by either chamber.
It further clarified that the review is confined to internal processes and procedures and is undertaken without prejudice to the powers or actions of any other arm or agency of government.
Reaffirming its commitment to constitutionalism, separation of powers, and due process, the National Assembly said any procedural or administrative refinements identified will be addressed in line with the law and parliamentary conventions.
The legislature appealed for public restraint, urging citizens to allow institutional processes to proceed without conjecture, and reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the faithful discharge of its legislative duties.
The statement concluded that further information would be provided as necessary.
