French football icon Thierry Henry has apologised to Nigerians following backlash over a comment he made about a pair of Super Eagles shorts during a FIFA World Cup broadcast.
The incident occurred while the former Arsenal and Barcelona star was analysing the United States’ 4-1 victory over Paraguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside popular American streamer IShowSpeed.
During the broadcast, IShowSpeed appeared wearing Nigeria’s Super Eagles shorts, prompting Henry to jokingly describe the outfit as “bad luck.” The remark quickly sparked criticism from Nigerian football fans on social media.
Many supporters viewed the comment as disrespectful to Nigeria and the national team, triggering widespread reactions across online platforms.
Responding to the criticism, Henry clarified that his statement was made in jest and was never intended to demean Nigeria, the Super Eagles or their supporters.
