President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday defended his administration’s economic reforms, insisting that the tough measures introduced since he assumed office were beginning to yield positive results for Nigerians.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message ahead of the Sallah celebration, Tinubu said the economy had become more stable despite the hardship triggered by recent policies. He maintained that the sacrifices made by Nigerians and the government were necessary to secure long-term prosperity and sustainable growth for the country.
The President said reforms such as the removal of petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira were difficult but unavoidable steps aimed at repositioning the economy. According to him, the measures had improved investor confidence and strengthened Nigeria’s economic outlook. Tinubu added that the country was gradually emerging from its economic challenges and becoming a preferred destination for investment, job creation and growth.
While the reforms have drawn praise from some economists and international financial institutions, they have also led to a sharp rise in inflation, food prices and transportation costs nationwide. The government, however, insists the policies have stabilised the naira and freed resources for critical sectors including healthcare, education and infrastructure.

Tinubu also addressed the country’s security challenges, including terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, acknowledging that attacks on some communities still persist despite intensified military operations. He said security agencies remained committed to tackling criminal elements across the country, noting recent successes against terrorist groups, including the elimination of a wanted ISIS leader.
“I assure you: you are neither abandoned nor forgotten. We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil.”
The president urged Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, compassion, unity, and peace
associated with Eid-el-Kabir, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.
Tinubu also called on Muslims to pray for the nation and support the less privileged during the festive period.
“My administration remains committed to building a Nigeria where all citizens can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their dreams without fear,” he added.
