Tobi Amusan Wins EKO FM 2022 Person Of The Year Award

Reigning Nigeria, Africa, Commonwealth and World 100m hurdles champion, Tobiloba Amusan has won EKO FM 2022 Person Of The Year Award.

To win the award, Amusan had eighty-nine votes ahead of Ejiro Otarigho, a tanker driver, who drove a burning fuel tanker away from residential area at Agbarho in Delta State in order to save lives of residents and Daniel Amah, a Policeman who rejected the sum of two hundred thousand dollars bribe from armed robbery suspects in Kano State.

Amusan made history as the first Nigerian track and field athlete to win a World outdoor title and the first to also set a world outdoor record when seh ran 12.12 seconds over the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA last July.

The 25 year old also made history at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom where she became the first Nigerian track and field athlete to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games title after running a 12.30 Games record to win the high hurdles.

The annual event, organized by the Current Affairs Directorate of Radio Lagos/EKO FM, is part of the Directorate’s efforts in recognizing and appreciating Nigerians who engage in unique and worthy activity to a community, society or the country at large.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Radio Lagos/EKO FM, Olajide Lawal, has advised Amusan not to rest on her oars but continue working hard.

Lawal, who made this statement on Thursday while presenting the award to Amusan’s manager, Lanre Vigo, in his office, said the award would serve as a motivation for the athlete to continue making brilliant performances in international athletics competitions.
