Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI have ambushed a Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) logistics convoy in Borno State, neutralising 21 terrorists during operations in Sojiri and Kayamla communities.

A statement posted on the Army’s X handle on Sunday said the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that over 100 Boko Haram terrorists had converged in the area to launch coordinated attacks on neighbouring communities and transport supplies to their strongholds.

“Acting on this intelligence, troops, in close coordination with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes, swiftly mobilised to intercept the terrorists. Contact was made at about 1200 hours as the insurgents advanced,” the statement said.

It added that the troops engaged the enemy in a sustained firefight, repelling a rear-flanking attempt by the terrorists. Subsequent operations confirmed the neutralisation of 21 insurgents, with several others believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

Follow-up operations are ongoing to ascertain additional enemy casualties and recover more items, the statement said.

Recovered items included bicycles, food supplies, drugs, medical kits, detergents, clothing, bicycle tyres, torchlights, assorted weapons and ammunition, highlighting the insurgents’ logistics capabilities.

The Nigerian Army described its troops as highly motivated, with fighting efficiency “strong and unwavering,” noting that the operation underscores the impact of intelligence-driven joint security efforts in disrupting terrorist networks and supply chains.

The roops of Operation HADIN KAI also uncovered an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Damboa–Komala road and arrested two suspected Boko Haram logistics suppliers in Kirawa, Gwoza Local Government Area.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), Lt. Col. Sani Uba, confirmed the successes, noting that the operations were conducted between December 17 and 19.
