Yucateco Boxing League: 24 Bouts Completed In Ajegunle In Week-11

It’s was another night of rumble in the squared ropes as the Yucateco Boxing train made a stop on Friday at the home of diverse talent in Lagos “Ajegunle”. With twenty-two bouts on the fight card, boxing fans were treated to the best blend of music and sports with several live performances at the interval.

In an electrified atmosphere at the Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA sports arena, hostilities got on the way in the in the male 51kg contest as Taiwo Bakare of Akil boxing club secured a 4-1 victory over Qozeem Abeeb of Angulo Siete BC. The first 51kg fight of the night kept the fans at the edge seat as Quam Musefiu of Angulo Siete BC and Ayodeji Jamiu of Akil bc took the battle to the wire with the later finishing the strongest with a 3-2 triumph. The 63.5kg contest turned out to be a one-sided show as Riliwan Salawu race to a 5-0 win against Ismail Jimoh.

Koffi Koudeha fought till the end despite losing all five rounds against Semiu Omotajo of Progreso bc in their 71kg contest. In the 75kg David Akintola of Angulo Siete BC got back to winning ways after recent setbacks as he won all three rounds against Jimoh Afeez of Akil boxing club. It was however a close contest between Progreso’s Adeniyi Bolajoko and Sorinola Moses of Miramontes bc with Adeniyi holding strong to a 3-2 triumph. Technical Director of the Yucateco boxing league Babatunde Laguda praised the boxers for their dexterity in each fight week.

” i must commend these pugilists for the grit they have shown since the season started, some of them fought in the Yucateco Pan-African title contest in Ilorin Kwara state last Saturday and here they are five days after fighting without showing any signs of laxity”.

” Osun state will be our next stop, before subsequent fight weeks in Kano, Abuja and Cross River State”.

In his remarks, the Chairman Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA Hon. Fatai Adekunle Ayoola expressed delight in hosting the bouts as he Pledges further collaborations with the Yucateco Boxing Promotions.

” sincerely this is like bringing Las Vegas to Ajegunle, event of this nature is all that’s needed to redirect some of our straying youth so, i want to appreciate the CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions Omonlei Yakubu Imadu for bringing the event to Ajeromi-Ifelodun”.

President of the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, said the boxing league initiative is aimed at breeding the next generation of boxing superstars for Nigeria.

” we have see some of these boxers develop from just knowing the rudiments of the sports to real time fighters , mark my works, some of these guys will represent Nigeria at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and they will win medals for the country”

A total of 282 bouts have been completed after week-11 hostilities of Season 2 of the Yucateco boxing league. Twelve accredited boxing clubs are competing for the grand prize of N50 Million naira.
