Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League kicks off in two centres by Our Reporter September 2, 2024 written by Our Reporter September 2, 2024 100The 2024 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League kicks off today in two cities: Akure, Ondo State, and Lafia, Nasarawa State.In Akure, the Indoor Sports Hall of the Akure Township Stadium will host the Atlantic Conference, featuring eight teams: First Bank, Delta Force, MFM, First Deep Waters, Dolphins, IGP Queens, Bayelsa Whales, and Sunshine Angels. According to the fixtures released by the Nigeria Basketball Federation, the opening matches include First Bank vs. Delta Queens, with defending champions MFM facing First Deep Waters. Additionally, Dolphins will play IGP Queens, while Bayelsa Whales take on Sunshine Angels. In Lafia, the City Hall will host the Savannah Conference, where eight other teams will compete for a final spot in the league. The first and second phases of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League, beginning September 22nd, will feature a round-robin format. Four teams from each of the two conferences will advance to the finals in Lagos, where eight teams will compete for the 2024 title.Adaora Umeoji, Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, has urged all participants to embrace the spirit of friendliness and fair play throughout the competition. “We are aware winners will emerge in the fixtures but we want all of them to uphold discipline, make friends and exhibit their talents in the next few weeks. “It is always a delight to put smiles on the faces of our women and so far we at Zenith Bank are proud that these ladies are making Nigeria proud in continental and global tournaments,” the Zenith CEO said.
