CAF Champions League: Rivers United, Plateau United zoom into next round

Rivers United zoomed into the first round of the CAF Champions League despite falling to a 1-0 defeat against Watanga FC of Liberia at the Samuel Doe Stadium, Monrovia on Sunday night.

Farsedu Logan converted from the spot on 16 minutes to hand the home team victory in the game.

It was Rivers United, who however advanced to the next round 3-1 on aggregate.

Stanley Eguma’s side will face Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca for a place in the group stage of the competition.

At the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, Plateau United defeated AS Mandji of Gabon 1-0 to secure a place in the next round.

Haggai Katoh fired home the winner in the 63rd minute.

The Jos club won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side will confront Tunisian club, Esperance in the next round.
