The Nigerian men’s 4x400m relay team has been disqualified from the final of the event.
The team, consisting of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene, and Chidi Okezie, had secured a spot in the final by finishing second in Heat 1 behind France, recording a season’s best time of 2:59.81.
However, the Nigerians were disqualified for stepping on the line during their heat.

As a result, Belgium has moved into second place, and South Africa has taken third.
The disqualification has dashed the team’s hopes of replicating the success of the 2000 and 2004 teams, which won gold and bronze in Sydney and Athens.
