Players and officials of Rivers United FC were conferred with the Governor’s Medal of Service (GMS) award by the state’s number one citizen, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday.
The event was held at the Banquet hall of the Government House Port Harcourt.
Rivers United won the Nigeria Professional Football League title last season, the first time in the history of the club.
It would be recalled that Wike rewarded the players with $20,000 each in July for the title success.
Stanley Eguma’s side, however, missed out on the $40,000 bonus each Wike promised them if they secure a place in the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
The Port Harcourt club secured a place in the money-spinning group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
